This user account is a bot operated by Mets501 (talk).

It is not a sock puppet, but rather an automated or semi-automated account for making repetitive edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually.
Administrators: if this bot is malfunctioning or causing harm, please block it.

MetsBot is used for template substitution, replacement, and addition, diacritical mark corrections, commenting out and removing deleted images, and various category tasks (renaming, moving, deleting, etc.). It will only run when it is initiated by Mets501, its owner.

[edit] Tasks

The approvals for these tasks are located in the following pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Templates Diacritical marks
This bot substitutes templates listed at Wikipedia:Template substitution#Templates that should be substituted and template deletion debates that end in "substitute and delete". It also changes links to templates that are moved (such as per the WP:GUS), and adds templates to different articles requiring them. This bot adds diacritical marks to words that need them and other such trivial tasks.
Images Categories Double redirects
This bot removes from articles images that are speedy deleted or deleted because of IFD, and comments out images deleted because the copyright or source is unknown after the image has been tagged as such for seven days. This bot performs various category-related tasks, including category renaming, deletion, and addition. MetsBot fixes double redirects listed at Special:DoubleRedirects and through manual input.

[edit] How this bot works

This bot runs on the pywikipedia framework for most tasks and AutoWikiBrowser for some.
