Mettingen is a municipality in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated approx. 25 km east of Rheine and 20 km west of Osnabrück. Population 12,391 (2005). Neighbour villages of Mettingen are Recke in the west, in the north it's Neuenkirchen that is in Lower Saxony, Ibbenbüren is a neighbour village in the south and in the east there is Westerkappeln.

The founders of the textile company C&A, Clemens and August Brenninkmeyer, were born in Mettingen. Also Annika Suthe, participant of the 2004 Summer Olympics (javelin throw) was born there.
