Metsamor Kingdom, It was established before Nairi. The territory of Metsamor town (population number comprised 9.9 ths. persons in 2002) has been populated since V millennium B.C. until the XVIII century A.D. The excavations of the tombs of Metsamor castle began in 1965. Arkuni town is famous for its observatory and temple complexes consisted of 7 sanctuaries. At Metsamor (ca 5000 BC), one of the oldest observatories in the world can be found. "The Metsamorians were a trade culture, "For trade, you have to have astronomy, to know how to navigate." The numerous inscriptions found at Metsamor puzzled excavators, as indecipherable as they were elaborate. Hundreds of small circular bowls were carved on the rock surfaces. [1]

The Museum of History and Archeology at Metsamor was opened in 1968. It is the repository of more than 22,000 items, almost all uncovered at the site.
