Metropolis of Western Europe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Metropolis of Western Europe is an autonomous body in the Eastern Orthodox Church under the patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. This metropolitan church is received under the canonical jurisdiction of The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Like the other churches derived from the Orthodox Church in the former USSR, the church is not recognized universally as autonomy. After the fall of the Soviet Union, their church takes place at both part of the synod of Orthodox Bishops in France. The metropolitan of the church, Gabriel (de Vylder), was elected as exarch in 2003. Currently, the membership of this church is more or less 100,000.
