Metrolina Speedway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Metrolina Speedway is an auto racing track located in northeast Charlotte, North Carolina on the Metrolina Fairgrounds. The track currently sits abandoned though there are plans in place to revive the facility. The efforts could face legal battles from those who see other uses for the land in ever expanding Charlotte.

The track, also known as Charlotte Fairgrounds Speedway, is 1/2-mile (.804 km) in length and has a clay surface. It was paved for a short time in the 1970s to allow the NASCAR circuit to hold races there. It is one of many racetracks in the Metrolina region of North Carolina and South Carolina.

A soccer team has expressed interest in the speedway, seeking a ground of its own instead of using the standard league fields. The team is not connected with the Charlotte Eagles.
