Metro Mall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Metro Mall is a shopping mall in Middle Village, Queens, New York. It is located on Metropolitan Avenue, adjacent to the Metropolitan Avenue subway station. The mall was built between 1972 and 1974 on the site of a Western Electric plant, which closed around 1965.

When Metro Mall opened, it featured Robert Hall Village on the main floor, a Macy's warehouse on the lower level, and City of New York offices on the top floor. The mall also featured a Bohack supermarket with an external entrance. After Robert Hall Village closed, the Robert Hall store became Times Square Stores (TSS), and the lower level was gutted for retail. Also, Bohack was taken over by Waldbaums. The new "Metro Mall" that was formed featured a Sears Brand Central store, as well as Pergament Home Center. As these stores opened, Waldbaum's moved to the mall level, the old Waldbaum's location becoming Toys "Я" Us. Since then, both Pergament and the newer Waldbaum's have closed, their locations now occupied by BJ's Wholesale Club. [1]
