Metro Balderas (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Metro Balderas, a song by Mexican Rock Musician "Rockdrigo Gonzalez" (Rodrigo Gonzalez), refers to a man that loved a woman "that got lost" in (Mexican subway station) Metro Balderas. A cover of the song was made by another Mexican rock band in the eighties called "Grupo Dama". A modified version of the song was played by Mexican rock band El Tri and included in the "Simplemente" album of 1985. Argentine band Los Enanitos Verdes made a cover of the El Tri version in 1998 for their "Tracción Acústica" album.

The "got lost" part mentioned above is really misleading, the song is about a guy that realized that in that subway station, his girlfriend became a prostitute. This is stated in the last line of the song "ahí es donde ella se metió al talón", which in mexico-city slang has exactly that meaning.

A plaque on Metro Balderas was placed on September 19, 2004 to remember Rockdrigo on the fifteenth anniversary of his death during the big earthquake of 1985 in Mexico City.
