Metiabruz lies on the southern fringe of Kolkata, the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located on India's Eastern Coast.

It is connected with Kolkata by road,through the Circular Garden Reach Rd, a 40min drive. This road ends at the Matiaburj Police Station, and from here it divides into the Akra Road and the Dr. Abdul Kabir Rd, the main arterial roads of the place. The well-known Botanical Gardens of Shibpur,are located just across the river Hooghly. Another local district, Howrah, is well connected with Metiabruz through a frequent ferry and boat service.

It is relatively unknown to those living in Kolkata, but is a key industrial location, with a power station and a water pumping station that supply water to major parts of the city. It also has a ship building yard,the GRSE engaged in making Defense Ships,and is home ot one of the largest textile manufacturers in India.[citation needed]Another key area of employment in the city are brick-kilns, which generally employ daily wage workers. Child labour is also a concern. Metiabruz is also famous for being the largest KITE manufacturer in the world. Matiyabruz is famous for Jwellery shop, and the famous one is Ruby Jwellery Shop, P17, Gardeen Reach Road.

The population of Metiabruz consists mainly of Muslims( approx 90%). Main spoken languages include Bengali, Urdu and Hindi, spoken widely in the large migrant population. It is home to a large number of unskilled labourers that settled here from rural areas in West Bengal and Bihar, who are employed on a daily wage; this includes construction workers, cleaners, plumbers, and painters. Education in Metiabruz does not feature highly on the local government agenda thats why it still lacks a college in the area.

Metiabruz has a rich history. The Nawab of Oudh, Wajaid Ali Shah, took refuge here when he was ousted byt he British from his throne, and attempted to build a replica of his palace in Metiabrux. The Imambara he created stands at the centre of Metiabruz,it is sometimes termed as the 'Second Lucknow'.

The local MLA is Mr.Abdul Khaleque,elected from the Congress Party. Dr.Hannan operates the biggest Nursing Home in Metiabruz.Other eminent personalities include Mr.Abdul Khabir Gazi,the most experienced lawyer in Metiabruz and among the best in Kolkata.It is also home to eminent businessmen from the field of Garments. Ruby and Ashok are the famous personality of matiyabruz because there marriage was outstanding for this area, that is held on 20 feb 2007.
