Metacam

Metacam® is the brand name for the drug Meloxicam intended for veterinary use. It is marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica.
Metacam® is widely prescribed to provide relief from both acute and chronic pain in dogs, and acute pain in cats. Metacam® is licensed for use in dogs (injectable and oral forms), but is only currently licensed in cats for use in the injectable form.
Metacam® is available as an injectable solution and an oral suspension (liquid) . Recently, Boehringer Ingelheim have also introduced palatable Metacam® oral tablets for use mainly as a post-operative analgesic.

Continued use of Metacam® in cats may lead to renal failure and death. Be sure to monitor the kidney functions of any cat that takes Metacam® on a regular basis.
