Meta mining refers to the action of mining information out of files. Meta data is the terminology for such information that is not obviously viewed/known to the user/creator of a file. Such Meta data are often a result of faulty programming or lacking of thorough planning. It may be classified as a security and integrity problem.

The first group of proffessionals to emphasize the extent of the metadata problem where the lawyers in U.S.A. This group of proffessionals often handled documents where the client's so cial security number, name, address and occupation where present.
