Meta-Breed

The Meta-Breed is gang of superpowered characters in the animated series Static Shock, led by the supervillain Ebon. Ebon has tried to recruit as many Bang-Babies in his new gang the Meta-Breed as he can. Members of the gang include or have included:

[edit] Membership

  • Ebon (Ivan Evans): Leader of the Meta-Breed. Ebon's real name is Ivan Evans, and he is the older brother of the Rubber-Band Man (Adam Evans). Ebon is one of Static's most persistent adversaries - he has a personal grudge against Static for foiling so many of his plans. A mass of living shadow, he calls himself "the master of shadows and darkness", with the ability to use shadows to his liking: he can slide on wall surfaces, go under doors, through cracks. He can also become an inter-dimensional shadow portal, able to take others with him (similar to the Shadow-slide in the Shadow Cabinet comics, which only works in total darkness). Ebon is weakened by intense bright light. Ebon has been a recurring character on the show since season one.
  • Talon (Teresa): a teenaged girl who has turned into teenaged Girl-Bird - she is covered in feathers, she has claws and talons and she can fly - plus she can emit a destructive hyper-sonic shriek. For almost all the series' Talon has worked for Ebon (except in The Big Leagues), but in the last episode Power Outage, Talon is restored to her human state and reluctant to become Talon again, assists Static and Gear to take on Ebon
  • Shiv, the jokester in the Meta-Breed. He can generate "Light-Energy", which he can blast with. He can also fashion Light-Energy weapons - he can hold them, throw them or fashion them around his arms and hands. He is a big fan of the Joker.
  • D-Struct/Derek Barnett: D-Struct generates a mass of pure ionic energy around himself; this can protect him from harm and can be thrown at targets. Was first recruited after his powers had freshly manifested, he only worked with the Meta-Breed because he was scared to go home to his mother and felt like it was the only place for him. In the end Static convinces Derek otherwise and later Derek Volunteers himself as research subject for research on the Bang-Baby condition.
  • Carmen-Dillo: Resembling a mutated armadillo, Carman-Dillo possesses a bullet-proof hide and the ability to be launched as a projectile. This Bang-Baby lives in garbage cans, eats out of them, and loves to cause trouble. He had also once been seen hanging around with a dog-like Bang-Baby.
  • Aqua-Maria is a young latina transformed into a being of living water and is able to control water. In Bad Stretch, Ebon had hoped that her water powers would be able to stop Static. Later in Wet & Wild, it is revealed that Aqua-Maria was one of the Bang-Babies, like D-Struct and Talon, that wished to return to normal.
  • Kangor: he has super-developed legs - like a kangaroo - that can stomp through the ground and make him leap great distances. After the Ruff-Pack and the Joker's Meta-Human gang he joined up with Ebon - who he apparently knew from time spent in Juvenile hall before the Big Bang.
  • Madelyn Spaulding: Madelyn, a late blooming Bang-Baby, after her short stint with Telepathy, and time recovering in hospital, and loses her memory of Static's real Identity (see Attack of the Living Puppets.) Madelyn was expelled from school for trying to take over and had to take up a job in a comicbook store, after a bout of bad temper Madelyn discovers she has Telekinetic powers, which with her controlling personality, uses them to break Ebon, Talon and Hot-Streak out of jail and declares herself the new leader of the Meta-Breed; after clashing with Ebon, and going up against Static, Gear and She-Bang, Madelyn Spaulding is again defeated
  • Ferrett: Ferrett is physically mutated; his jaw sticks out, and he has an enhanced sense of smell and taste, along with clawed fingers; after the Ruff-Pack, and time in a hospital (thanks to The Joker) - last seen in the Meta-Breed, robbing a bank with Kangorr and saw Kangorr returning to normal - only to return to normal himself when he was informing Ebon about Kangorr.
  • Fransis Stone/F-Stop/Hot-Streak: A Pyrokinetic Bang-Baby, and has been a foe of Static's since before the Big-Bang, when he was known as F-Stop, a school bully and the leader of his own street-gang and was assulting Virgil Hawkins as a means of gaining "Street-Cred", and during the all-out brawl at the docks when all the gangs were confronted by security and the police, F-Stop ends up being exposed to the gas-cloud of Big-Bang Gas. Always a hot-head, F-Stop renames himself Hot-Streak, and with his short-fused temper Hot-Streak always causes trouble no matter where he goes.
  • Slipstream': also called Heavy-C, can generate powerful aerokinetic winds and twisters to keep himself and items aloft in mid-air, and uses this ability for theft of food, money and valuable items. Slip-Stream is one of the Bang-Babies that are returning to normal, Ebon made him and other Bang-Baby an offer: he would restore their powers on the condition that he would be in charge.
  • Boom (Byron): Boom has the ability to generate and direct high-decibel sound from a speaker on his chest, strong enough to shatter targets to dust. His younger sister is Mirage, and they live with their grandmother following their parents' death. Boom steals money to get them a better place to live, but is captured with help from his sister. The character is based on Boom-Box, a spurned rapper from the original Static comic book series. Boom is one of the Bang-Babies that are returning to normal, Ebon made him and other Bang-Baby an offer: he would restore their powers on the condition that he would be in charge.
  • Tamara Lawrence: Tamara can turn into a large, super-strong beast, but her eyes and ears are sensitive to light and sound. She is accidentally caught in the Big Bang while looking for her boyfriend. After the Big Bang, she attacks certain people as a monster to put him under suspicion. Tamara was one of the Bang-Babies that returned to normal, Ebon made her and other Bang-Baby an offer: he would restore their powers on the condition that he would be in charge.

Since his first appearance, Ebon has always tried to recruit more Bang-Babies into his Meta-Breed, a gang of teenaged Meta-Humans'. In the The Breed Ebon attempted to recruit Static, but instead loses to Static when Static & D-Struct make good their escape. In Bad Stretch Ebon tried to get his brother, the Rubber-Band Man, to join up with the Meta-Breed - going as far as to frame him for a prison-break, in the end Rubber-Band Man defeats Ebon, but hopes that one day Ivan/Ebon will change his ways.
