Danny's most recent contest addressed the point that we have attained our initial goal of having many articles, but that came at a cost: many of our articles are not that great. Danny's Contest called for the improvement of articles to the point they were Featured Articles, the cream of the crop of Wikipedia. This contest is similar, but based on good articles. Good articles are, in my opinion, some of the best articles Wikipedia has to offer: they provide all the major information yet they are not too big. That is why for this contest, I am giving out a cash prize (paid out to you or to the Wikimedia Foundation) for whoever can take an article (existing or otherwise) and improve it to Good Article quality. It's that simple.

[edit] Prize amounts and total to be paid out

The amount of prize money you receive for an article is contingent on (a) the current quality of the article when you announce you intend on improving the article and (b) whether or not the article is "well known" or "not well known" (this depends on the amount of information available on the topic). The specific prize amounts are as follows:

  • Improving to Good Article status an article that is nearly a good article, just that it needs some cleaning up, sorting, images, and/or very little expansion: $5.
  • Improving to Good Article status an article that is either Start-level or B-level where the topic being discussed is well-known: $10.
  • Improving to Good Article status an article that is either Start-level or B-level where the topic being discussed is not well-known: $15.
  • Improving to Good Article status an article that is either a stub or doesn't exist where the topic being discussed is well-known: $15.
  • Improving to Good Article status an article that is either a stub or doesn't exist where the topic being discussed is not well-known: $20.

The contest will end when the $200 I have set aside for this contest runs out. (currently: $175)

what are this contest dates? Also, I would like to help you sponsor this. Can mail you check for add'l $25 to use for contest, but topic must be on anything about mathematics or physics. --Ilerne3 14:55, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I decided to set the deadline for submissions to be April 6. The people who get their article of choice to GA before my prize stockpile runs out, well, wins. Also, your offer of $25 to math/physics articles would probably be best suited for Wikipedia:Reward board. Signed, your friendly neighborhood MessedRocker. 19:48, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
