Messier 58 (also known as M58 and NGC 4579) is a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 68 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1779.[3] M58 is one of the brightest[4] galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. Two supernovae, SN 1988A and SN 1989M, have been observed in M58.[1]
