Merritton Tunnel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Merritton Tunnel is a historic landmark in the community of Merritton, Ontario, in the east-end of the city of St. Catharines. At the present day, the tunnel is still intact, but walled up on one end. There is a door, that has been broken so access is possible. The opposite end of the tunnel is flooded and harder do get to. The tunnel is a lurer of bush parties, paranormal activist, or crazy adventures. The tunnel is inaccessible to vehicles. It is known by many people as the "Blue Ghost Tunnel", named after the blue ectoplasm that can be seen on the limestone, and that it has also been the hotspot for seeing and hearing ghosts from inside the tunnel. With all this attraction, and with many people getting hurt in that area, and parents threatening to sue the St. Lawrence Seaway for the area being unsafe, the west side was walled off.
