Merivale is a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. Its boundaries are defined by Statistics New Zealand as being Leinster Rd to the north, Papanui Rd. to the east, Harper Avenue to the south and Rossall St. to the west, although Real Estate advertising often will claim residences outside this area (Especially St. Albans to the east of Papanui Rd) as being Merivale due to the perceived desirablity of the area. The area is predominantly residential with a retail centre on Papanui Rd (Merivale Mall). The area around Carlton Mill Rd. to the south may be referred to as being the suburb of Carlton Mill. Merivale is widely considered to be a middle to upper class area in a high earner socio-economic group.
