Dame Meriel Lucy Talbot, DBE (b. 1866 – 15 December 1956) was a women's welfare worker in the early 20th century.
She was the daughter of the Rt. Hon. John Gilbert Talbot (1835 - 1910) and the Hon. Meriel Sarah Lyttelton (1840 - 1925).
Her activities were included in a dossier known as "Record 237" (now located in the Irish National Archives) from the Department of the Taoiseach. It was the Published Report of the Empire Settlement, Oversea Settlement Committee for the year ended 31 December 1927. The second page of the report indicates that women were represented as officials on the Committee, for example, Mrs Harrison Bell, Dame Meriel Talbot, DBE, and Miss Margaret Bondfield, JP, MP. This report includes details of facilities to assist women intending to settle overseas, for example, the Women's Hostel in Cape Town ([1]).
Dame Meriel died in 1956, aged 90, having never married.
