From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mercury Mall or Mercury Plaza Mall was a shopping mall in Hampton, Virginia. It was built in the 1960s and had a Montgomery Ward store and a Rose's as anchor stores.
In 1973 Coliseum Mall opened one mile away. Mercury Plaza Mall deteriorated until by the late 1970s it was mostly vacant. By the early 1980s the mall was empty and Montgomery Ward had moved to Coliseum Mall. HQ hardware and Circuit City moved into the Montgomery Ward location. The mall closed and Burlington Coat Factory remodeled the "mall" part of the building into a store.
In 2000 HQ went out of business. In 2002 Circuit City Closed this location. In 2004 Burlington Coat Factory moved to Coliseum Mall.
After Burlington Coat Factory moved out in 2004 the entire site was cleared for redevelopment.
