Mercedes Scelba-Shorte (born 24th August 1981, from Valencia, California), also known as Mercedes Yvette, is an American fashion model and actress. She was a contestant and finalist on the 2nd season of America's Next Top Model. During the season, Scelba-Shorte revealed that she suffers from the disease lupus.[2]

Scelba-Shorte is half Caucasian and African-American, and has a Chinese step-father. Scelba-Shorte was born in New Jersey but her mother moved her to California at a young age.[3]

Scelba-Shorte was studying at California State University, Northridge before auditioning for America's Next Top Model.[4] She was accepted, and was eventually chosen as one of the 12 finalists on Cycle 2, which aired in 2004.

She also appeared in the MTV's reality show "Inside Fear".

After appearing on America's Next Top Model, Scelba-Shorte became a spokesperson for the National Lupus Foundation of America.[2] She signed with NOUS Model Management and has also landed small roles in a number of TV shows including One on One, All of Us and The Bold and the Beautiful.[5][6].

She has appeared on the cover Wedding Dresses Magazine in 2005, Lupus Now Magazine Fall 2004, and Arthritis Today. Her modelling credits include: Wedding Dresses Magazine, Lupus Now Magazine, Arthritis Today Magazine, Kohl's, Payless Shoes, Halston,Mervyn's, BellSouth, Lucky Magazine,Payless Shoes, Anchor Blue, Dell, Sears and Target.com. Her commercial credits include: Payless Shoes, Anchor Blue, Dell, Sears and Target.com. [7][8].
