Mercedes Colomar

Mercedes "Meche" Colomar is a fictional character in LucasArts' 1998 adventure game Grim Fandango. She is the main female character in the story.

[edit] At the D.O.D, The Petrified Forest and Rubacava
Mercedes Colomar was a 'premium' client in the Department of Death and was entitled to a ticket on the Number Nine express train. Whilst her original DOD agent was Domino Hurley, Manuel Calavera picked her up first. According to her bio, she died of chicken pox and also did a lot of volunteer work during her life.
Yet when Manny couldn't find her ticket, she felt downtrodden and left the DOD to walk to the Ninth Underworld. She spent a year in the dreaded area known as the Petrified Forest amongst demons and the terror the forest inflicted upon her. She finally made it to Rubacava, and came across Manny Calavera's new club; The Calavera Cafe. However she was captured by her former corrupt agent Domino Hurley and taken aboard a ship. As Calavera ran to save her, she hit him with a bottle of champagne claiming to make sure he wasn't captured by Domino as well.
[edit] Captivity with Domino
She spent a year travelling with Domino to Puerto Zapato but she jumped overboard at the mysterious site known as The Pearl. However this was just another ruse; Domino had a giant octopus that captured Lost Souls and took them to his Island Hideout on the Edge of the World. Meche along with other souls were captured and taken to work for Domino in a lightbulb factory.
While others were unlucky; Meche was forced to work as Domino's secretary- however this closeness caused Meche to lash out at Domino several times to which he was hardly affected. Eventually Manny Calavera came to the Edge of the World in an attempt to save Meche, yet after insulting her she refused his help. Domino also expected Manny to work for him; yet Manny made attempts to escape the island.
[edit] Regaining Trust in Manny
In order to regain Meche's trust, Manny gave her his gun with which she took him hostage and believed that Domino would let her go if she threatened to shoot Manny. Yet this was a deception and Meche and Manny's gun were taken care of. Domino put her into a safe of which he said 'dampened her fuse' meaning to give her time to control her anger. Manny rescued her from the vault and they escaped through a tile in the floor that led out to a beach.
Manny was able to attain a ship and with the other Lost Souls they escaped the island; yet Domino came after them in his submarine. Meche watched as Manny and Domino fought scythe to scythe until Manny shattered the eye-glass of the octopus that powered the submarine. While Domino boasted to Manny about his brilliance he was destroyed when the two coral-crushers on Manny's ship drove into the submarine and shredded him.
[edit] At the End of the World
Meche, Manny and the others travelled to the Ninth Underworld; to the final station at the End of the World. Yet through the deception of El Marrow Crime-Lord Hector Lemans, they were not able to enter the Ninth Underworld without their tickets. Manny promised to return to El Marrow to claim the tickets from the hands of Lemans; Meche decided to go with him.
Glottis however fell ill, his demon-spirit was growing weaker as he had spent too much time away from machines. In an attempt to bring him back to life again, Manny and Meche rode with Glottis on a rocket which flew along the tracks of the Number Nine.
They got as far as Rubacava, before the rocket broke down; but were able to get their old car the Bone Wagon back in Rubacava once they had defused Domino's booby trap. With old friend Olivia Ofrenda, they came back to El Marrow which had been taken over by Hector Lemans and turned into Nuevo Marrow.
[edit] The Final Night in Nuevo Marrow
They were captured by Manny's old agency the Lost Souls' Alliance; yet their plan seemed to be failing as Salvador took the matters into his own hands to take care of Hector. Meche agreed to help by getting Manny a suit to confront Hector with; using her charm she was able to seduce Chowchilla Charlie away from the slot machines in Hector's Casino Tower and get Manny his suit.
Later she met Manny at the station, once he had got the tickets from Hector Lemans. Yet she was attacked by Demon Ravens at the station and threw the tickets to Manny who was then picked up by Olivia who was driving by.
After the death of Hector Lemans, Manny and Meche travelled back to the Ninth Underworld where they presented the Gatekeeper with the tickets to the Land of Eternal Rest. He agreed to let them go; Manny and Meche were on the train together; finally found one another and united forever in eternity.
