Merawi (woreda)

Merawi is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Merawi is bordered on the south by Sekela, on the west by the Agew Awi Zone, on the northwest by Achefer, on the northeast by Bahir Dar Zuria, and on the east by Adet. Towns and cities in Merawi include Merawi and Wetet Abay.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 334,477, of whom 167,298 were males and 167,179 were females; 21,195 or 6.34% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 7.6%. With an estimated area of 1,602.81 square kilometers, Merawi has an estimated population density of 208.7 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 174.47.[1]
