Mephiston
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Warhammer 40,000 universe, Chief Librarian Mephiston is a main character within the Blood Angels Chapter of Space Marines.
[edit] Birth of Mephiston
Mephiston was originally known as Calistarius within the Blood Angels Chapter. Calistarius was perhaps an unremarkable figure - if that term can be used for any space marine. He was a Librarian who was noted for his unusual strength of will. His destiny would be changed forever by the events on the planet Armageddon though. Here fighting for the Imperium he succumbed to the Black Rage and was inducted into the Death Company in the tradition of the Blood Angels. In the next assault on an enemy fortress Calistarius ended up becoming trapped under the collapsing walls. He lay there for 7 days and 8 nights fighting the Black Rage guided by a vision of the primarch Sanguinius who told him he must become an example to all his brethren and show the curse can be beaten. After 7 days he vanquished the Black Rage and burst free reborn as Mephiston whom the Blood Angels call "The Lord of Death".
[edit] Chief Librarian
Mephiston then took his place among his brothers as the Chief Librarian. His ordeal has greatly augmented his powers and he is thought by many to be the most powerful psyker within the Adeptus Astartes. His eyes reflect the rage and insanity that he had to fight through and it is said his gaze alone can cause men to break. He wields the force sword Vitaris to great effect and commands the battle barge Europae - he is Commander Dante's right hand man and trusted advisor as well as a figure of respect and fear throughout the Imperium.
