A mental block is an informal term used to mean either repression of painful thoughts, or an inability to continue a train of thought, like in the case of writer's block. This can lead to many psychological dysfunctions including but not limited to schizophrenia.
It is often used to describe a temporary inability to recall a name or other information. See also Memory, Forgetting.
