[edit] Synopsis
As the episode begins, John and Aeryn are stealing a secret moment alone, as they explain that the males of Moya are going to a "mental arts training camp", at the instigation of Scorpius. Scorpius claims his motivation is to make John more able to resist Scarran mind probing. From John's perspective, he's doing it so that Scorpius will help him get information on the critter that traveled to earth and attacked John and killed his friends, in the previous episode (Terra Firma). The women, meanwhile, will be traveling to a trading area to obtain some stealth technology to conceal Moya from scans.
The men arrive at Katoya's, and when there discover that Macton, D'Argo's PK brother-in-law, who killed D'Argo's wife Lo'laan, is also there. The two men grapple, as flashbacks of Lo'laan are seen. It is revealed that D'Argo beat Lo'laan when in the grip of Luxan hyper-rage, but that Lo'laan concealed this from him, because he said he would leave her immediately if he ever found he had hurt her. Macton accidentally kills her when he tries to go after D'Argo, in a rage because of D'Argo's attack on Lo'laan. D'Argo defeats Macton in Katoya's arena, and traps him in his own mind, forever reliving the murder of his sister. D'Argo declines to kill him, though.
Rygel combats a Charrid in Katoya's arena, seeking revenge for the genocidal war the Charrid's waged against the Hynerian Empire. Rygel emerges victorious.
John, meanwhile, is singled out for special treatment by Katoya, at Scorpius' insistence. John is put in a cage heated with coals. The only escape is via a key that is dropped from high over head at occasional intervals. John keeps letting his concentration wander for a minute, which is when a new key falls, and he misses it. Finally, John ignores the pain, seizes the grill covering the coals, and pulls the hot key out of it without flinching. The men then travel home, demons conquered, but D'Argo is pensive due to what he just learned.
