Mensch is the 20th album by prominent German artist Herbert Grönemeyer. Released in 2002, it's title track Mensch became Grönemeyer's first number-one single. The mood of the album reflects the recent death of both his wife and his brother within the same week, and are rich with poetic imagery. The richness of the imagery and language in the songs makes them often difficult to understand for the non-native German speakers. In Mensch Herbert reflects on his own humanity as it relates to feeling loss. The song Der Weg in particular focuses on memories of his wife and the love they shared. The album is available on a copy-protected CD, and contains a hidden track after about fifteen minutes of silence at the end of the last song. The album is almost entirely in German, with only the hidden track in English. The Album has been a huge succes in Germany and sold nearly 4 million copies.
