Menometrorrhagia - This is a condition in which prolonged or excessive uterine bleeding occurs irregularly and more frequently than normal.
Causes: Menometrorrhagia can occur due to various causes some of which are:
1) Hormonal imbalance
2) Endometriosis
3) Uterine fibroids (benign tumors)
4) Cancer (rarely)
The excessive uterine bleeding which occurs frequently can lead to Anemia in long-standing cases.
Treatment of Menometrorrhagia depends on the cause. In cases where malignancy is ruled out, hormone supplementation or the therapeutic use of birth control pills is usually recommended to regulate the menses.
