Menoetius (official designation (617) Patroclus I Menoetius) is the smaller component of the binary Jupiter Trojan asteroid 617 Patroclus. The two objects are roughly similar in size, Menoetius is 112.8 km in diameter, whereas the dimensions of Patroclus are 122 km by 112 km. Menoetius is located 685 km from Patroclus and one revolution around the center of mass takes about 4.3 days. Menoetius was named after the son of Iapetus and Clymene in Greek mythology. Following its discovery in 2001, it received the temporary designation S/2001 (617) 1.
