Menntaskóli

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Menntaskóli" is Icelandic for High School, or college, although it works differently from the American school. In Iceland grade school (grunnskóli) goes from 1st to 10th grade, which are the only mandatory school years in Iceland. After graduation from grade school, you choose what High Schools/College you wish to go to as if you were choosing a college in the United States. It is all based on what you wish to learn. It is a 4 year term and after that you will have opened more doors of employment opportunities in Iceland for you. The menntaskóli is roughly the equivalent of the last two years of high school and the first two of university, if compared to the United States. A completion of menntaskóli usually provides the student with stúdentspróf (upper secondary certificate) which is what is required for entry to most university programs in Iceland.
