Menno Baars

Menno Baars (b. 1961) is a Dutch artist who came to prominence in the early 21.st century, and is often seen as enabling a transition from figurative childlike CoBrA painting to destructive Abstract Neo-Expressionism. He is perhaps most famous for his contemporary action painting with thick application of paint, violent colors and vehement brush stroke in rich and innovative combinations. He lives and works in Amsterdam. Baars's works, filled with raw emotion, contain an underlying edge of brutality while still being suffused with energy. Baars claims that he's "aiming at an emotional state, a state that people can literally walk into and be engulfed."
