Menchville High School

Menchville High School is one of five high schools in Newport News, Virginia. The school colors are purple and gold, and the school's mascot is a regal Lion. Menchville's sports teams are consistently given the Julian Rice Trophy for best collective sports team in Newport News. The school's boys and girls athletic teams are known as the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs respectively. They are the top school in Newport News in terms of the number of students taking AP exams, and have the highest rate of passing.
In 2006, Menchville High School was rated as the 296th best public high school in the nation according to Newsweek Magazine.[citation needed]
The school was named in honor of Thomas H. Menchville.
