Hi MelSkunk, and welcome to Wikipedia.

Thankyou for finding the time to sign up and contribute to our little project. If you're in doubt about anything, you might want to check out some of these pages:

It's also a good idea to sign the new user log and add a little about yourself.

When contributing to a talk page, you can sign your name by typing four tildes after your comments, like this: ~~~~. (Just so you know, some people won't pay attention to unsigned comments).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me at my talk page, or at the Help desk or Village Pump.

Above all, make sure you be bold when contributing, and have fun!

[edit] Havanese

Very nice job on a complete & well-formatted article. Most first-timers contributing articles of this length are using copyrighted material from elsewhere--but so far I haven't seen that this is this case here. Also I never see this quality from a first-timer. Are you sure you're not a different Wikipedian in your secret identity? Elf | Talk 05:55, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Answering your questions--we were leaving each other messages simultaneously :-) -- You did a great job! It didn't look rushed at all. Plus I know a lot about what dog articles already exist. :-) No, we don't have any photos here that I've found, and I've just finished cataloging them all here. You can try braving the wilds of Wikipedia:Public domain image resources to find images; some people are very good at this and/or lucky at finding appropriate images. [edit] Dog project

Mel Drake/Smith/Skunk: Absolutely welcome on board the dog project! Glad to have you. Mostly we all do what you do, poke around in dog topics and expand and improve & add them to our watchlists to see what kinds of edits other people are making. :-) Elf | Talk 21:15, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Welcome from me too. The project is growing and we are really seeing the difference in the section now. Anything you add to that will be great. Just ask any of the participants if you need a hand anytime - you can check our contributions lists to see who is active these days. Regards -- sannse (talk) 07:40, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Halló MelSkunk! I just have seen you at [1] and wanted to say hello. Is the linking to other languages of any help for you? In what languages are you interested? Regards Gangleri 02:43, 2004 Oct 24 (UTC)
Salut and good day, Gangleri! It is indeed a help. I just wish I was a translater. <:) I can do passable French, and some Japanese. I do know that from my research, Germany has a HUGE dog culture too, so that is always good to tap into. Mel "MelSkunk" Smith 07:59, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Halló MelSkunk! You are right. I have been as a visitor to the International Dog show in Dortmund (May 2003) and there where 17.000 (seventeen thousends) of exhibited dogs. Hope to get more people to care about the German articles too.
I posted some ideas at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dog breeds#is: List of dog breeds and would be happy to know your opinion. Regards Gangleri 03:43, 2004 Nov 2 (UTC)

[edit] Pit Bull vs Boxer

How absolutely 100% certain are you that this photo is a Pit Bull and not a Boxer? It's one of many that I didn't take from stock xchg because I wasn't convinced about the photographer's label. Another user removed it from the Pit Bull article saying that it's a boxer. I relabeled it as unidentified in the list of images until I'm convinced one way or another. I have also forwarded it to a friend who has shown Boxers for years to get her opinon. Thanks for your input. Elf | Talk 01:14, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Could be a boxer with a long snout, could be a pit bull with a snubbier one. Can't really say for sure, no. There are so many pit types I wasn't worried, but now I'm not so sure.Mel "MelSkunk" Smith 23:18, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Also got a response from my boxer showing/rescue and dog-training friend, who said boxer or possibly boxer mix but definitely not a pit bull. Soooo... it seems to be creeping around to the boxer side of interpretation. Thanks. Elf | Talk 23:39, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Havanese article

Thought you might like to know this (if you didn't already see it)--new User:Bremen, who has been working his/her way through all of the dog articles making the organization consistent and so has now seen a great many of our articles, says this in Havanese edit history: "p.s. this is a great article for such an unknown breed". Elf | Talk 17:30, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright

Thank you, I will research and rewrite the Coton article. I don't believe the Maltese article is in violation. I've added references where necessary and a link. See talk page. Thanks. maltmomma July 2, 2005 13:01 (UTC)

[edit] Jamie Kane/Boy*d Upp articles

It looks like these articles are about to be deleted/redirected to Viral Marketing, so you may want to move the information you provided for them to there. --Barberio 16:05, 14 August 2005 (UTC) , ps, Hi Mel! >;)

Also reguarding those articles: It seems they were written by someone unrelated to the BBC, but rather, Wikipedian regulars. (See their VfDs.) Almafeta 23:42, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Anti- Anti- Polonism

Hello MelSkunk,

I have an example for you that can show you the problem I have to deal with: If I would say that it is forbidden in Canada to eat Chinese food caused by “Anti- Chinism”, and I would bring some Right winged German sources, how would you answer with Canadian “Anti- sources”? There isn’t an Anti- source, cause there is no rule that tells you not to eat Chinese food. You cant do anything against it, just like rumours work. You cant even read the German sources cause this is foreign for you. Does that mean, you have to life with lies used against you and your people? I cant allow these nationalists to bring lies to Wiki, cause people like you maybe believe in that: “This Germans WWI, WWII and now this thing with the Poles: does they ever learn?” I bring you the only German source mentioned in the article, and you can paint yourself a picture about the credibility of the other arguments; text on Wiki:

Polish language supressionGerman courts have not only forbidden divorced Polish-speaking parents to teach their children Polish, (disputed — see talk page) but also voiced objections to raising them in Polish culture, claiming that to do so would be harmful to their development.[7], [8].(disputed — see talk page) In addition they have been cases were Polish workers have been ordered by their employers to talk in German during their private time outside of work.

My investigation (I feel like Magnum…) on the net: The mentioned article is about a Pole with a German wife living in Germany. The man became violent against the family during the divorce, that’s why he is only aloud to see the children once in a month under the protection of an government institution in Hamburg. This institution says, that he has to talk to the children in German, otherwise they couldn’t understand what they are talking about. The Polish newspaper “Wrpost” brought that story on page one with the headline “Polnisch Verboten”. The story (as always in the newspaper “Wrpost”) was full of Anti- German stereotypes without any information about the background of the story. That’s reason why Poles don’t know about the violence of the Husband against his wife and his children. They even don’t know about the need of this treatment. You can see, that the source being used doesn’t show any evidence for Anti- Polonism. Its completely made up as the other "sources".

The other problem is, that I showed these side to a Polish friend of mine, and he is so outraged about it that he is erasing again and again, cause he feels himself on a kind of mission now. I said to him to stop this now, cause I want to be part of this project, and we share the same IP. But one thing is for sure: if they remove the "disputed" tag I will return him again and again: it's so nice to be student! Thank you for your intrest and congratulations to your (hopefully) good relationship to your neighbour. We in Europe have to go a much longer way caused by history, and this way has to start with honesty. Greetings from Germany, Volker

[edit] Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 14:47, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
