Template talk:MelbourneStations

I experimented with an addition to this template to automatically add a link to Connex's station facility page for the station next to "Entire network" as "Facilities at <station>", which worked for stations with only one word in their name (i.e: Seaholme), but not for stations with 2 words (i.e: Ringwood East), so I had to remove it. Looking for a way to solve it, could we create a second template (say: MelbourneStations2) in which the page on the connex website would be manually specified when the template is parsed (i.e: adding |Page=ringwoodeast to the page for the station within the

block). Would this be a good or bad idea? Somebody in the WWW 07:13, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

It appears that the for multi-word stations, the first word only is used in the link. So, just enter the first word only in the template, place that in the URL, and show the link as Facilities only, instead of Facilities at {{Template:Here}}, which wouldn't show the name properly. Though I would prefer this to be under an External links section, not in the line template, which isn't meant for it. T.PK 09:53, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Mont Albert has 'montalbert' in the link, so not all stations are just first word. Somebody in the WWW 11:00, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Well the links would have to be manually checked then. T.PK 06:23, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I've placed facilities links under External links in all the Loop articles (except MelCen, which doesn't show the right facilities at the Connex site - I've emailed them about it), as well as links to Melway online maps showing the stations and their surroundings. Are the maps a useful addition? T.PK 10:37, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Metlink also has facilities at their site for both suburban, greater-metro and regional stations, which seems to be less inaccurate than Connex's site in *most* cases (Connex's site used to say Altona was on the Hurstbridge line!), so you can link to that until Connex fixes their site.
IMHO I think the maps are a good addition, especially for the City Loop stations. I like the style of the Melway maps. Somebody in the WWW 10:45, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Are we agreed on where the facilities link should go though? T.PK 10:47, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I don't really care where it goes; External links (as you suggested) is probably the best position, especially if there are other links. Somebody in the WWW 10:49, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
