[edit] Citations needed?

The next mayor one is covered in one of the articles listed at the bottom of the page... http://www.anorak.co.uk/news.cfm?id=169597

And I would suggest that, although I didn't add it, The Sun offering money for a photoshoot means The Sun is a citation? Robertsteadman 04:56, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I've converted a couple of the External links to References, but can't find anywhere online to suggest that The Sun has offered her a photoshoot. Have you got a URL? Robwingfield (talk) 10:23, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Sadly it was an anon IP that added that.... Robertsteadman 18:07, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unsourced statements

Please could people cite their sources when adding detail to this page. It's starting to read like a tabloid article which may have no resemblance to the truth. Robwingfield (talk) 16:17, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

yea... fair enough, but why do you need a citation for the year for was born? thats pointless. and very pedantic —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.106.137.191 (talk • contribs) 16:59, 11 June 2006 (UTC).

Because it's only been stated that she's 17... now, that could mean she was born in 1989 and has had her birthday this year, or was born in 1988 and will be 18 later this year. Either way, it's currently ambiguous, so we can't state as fact that she was born in 1989. Robwingfield (talk) 22:32, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Linkspam

I've requested semi-protection for this page... see Wikipedia:Requests for page protection#Current requests for protection. — Robwingfield (talk) 19:27, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Which has been turned down as the spam isn't enough at this stage. I suggest we "reapply" if it gets worse. Robwingfield (talk) 16:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright?

Hello, I just noticed that most of this article seems copied and pasted from this page, with minor editing. Perhaps a rewrite is in order? Also, the anorak.co.uk link, both on this discussion page and in the main article, no longer seem to function.--194.247.231.8 23:56, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

I think it could well be the pother way round as the WP article existed first. Robertsteadman 06:30, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notability

According to the Wikipedia guidelines on notability for biographies, being the girlfriend of a footballer does not constitute enough notability for an article, nor would a single appearance on page 3 of The Sun newspaper.

The article is missing anything that justifies her notability. If you know anything further that would justify this article please add to it. Lynnathon 21:31, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

She has been a regular in the UK tabloid newspapers (not just Page 3) since May - she has been all over the papers. She may have, personally, achieved little but she is a celeb in her own right. Robertsteadman 06:23, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Are you suggesting she meets notability guidelines under "Persons achieving renown or notoriety for their involvement in newsworthy events"? Does being a UK tabloid "celeb" justify inclusion in the encyclopedia? What happens when the 15 minutes of fame are up? Personally I suggest merging into Theo Walcott. — Estarriol talk 08:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes I think she is newsworthy and eserves her own article (that's why Istarted it). Even if she only gets 15 minutes of fame, she has been famous and all across the papers - that's notable. Robertsteadman 09:02, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Estarriol, she has been in the tabloids due to her involvement with Theo Walcott. I do not feel that at the moment she has the notability to have an article of her own and this article should be merged with Theo's.Lynnathon 13:55, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

There are many "fan sites" and "photo sites" which focus on HER not Theo or even their relationship....Robertsteadman 14:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

i agree that at this stage she is not notable enough to justify her own page. however she may in the future so long as she remains theos girlfriend, theo is succesful next season and melanie is featured more in the press. i would suggest a merger with theos page, or even better a section about her on a page about footballers/england players wives and girlfriends.

ive just checked. there is a page for england players wives and girlfriends. its called wags. this should be merged with that for the time being!

Excellent idea I will put a note on the discussion page of Wags and see what people think. Lynnathon 11:18, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
  • An excellent idea, seconded. I've been looking for material on Melanie and she seems to me to still be (currently) not really notable enough for an encyclopedia article. — Estarriol talk 11:21, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Melanie Slade is certainly notable enough. She's a regular in the British tabloids. Robwingfield (talk) 08:09, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I was completely gobsmacked to find there is an article about this person. I was surprised enough that the article on Theo Walcott even bothers to mention her name, but the fact that she has her own article just makes a laughing stock of the rules on Notability. Suggest it's merged with WAGs as a matter of urgency, perhaps some credibility can still be retained. 86.16.223.203 22:41, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Tags added

I'm going to remove the two tags that were just added. There are no external links so the spam tag is inappropriate. With regards to the importance tag, I really don't see what more can be done to state her importance. She is somewhat famous for being Walcott's girlfriend and for being in the papers. The article state both of these. It may be that she isn't famous enough for inclusion, but the recent AFD found no consensus for this. --RicDod 17:20, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] HELLO MAGAZINE INTERVIEW

The person who added the article regarding the fact her "15 minutes of fame" are over, should reconsider. This should either be removed or edited. Mel and Theo are the coverstars of HELLO! magazine, which includes extensive interviews and photos. This magazine is dated 26th Sept 2006. With relation to the claims her 15 minutes of fame are up, can I also add that although Theo may not play for the England squad (Im unsure on the facts of this), he is still playing premiership football, meaning press coverage and in turn, press coverage of Mel. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hedphunk (talkcontribs) 18:36, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

The reference is to Slade, not Walcott and it says "moot point". However, best or refer to Hello!. IXIA 17:34, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WHOOO!

She's damn hot! I wish my gf wa that hot, i could kiss her forever.

[edit] Esquire

Nobody going to mention the front page appearence, and triple-page cover story she got for Esquire? The article says she disappeared after the world cup, but clearly this is not the case as the magazine was only out in December 2006. 134.36.126.71 23:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
