[edit] Season One (1992-1993)

When the show premiered, it had 8 main cast members. Each of the 8 original characters lived at the Melrose Place apartment complx. Michael and Jane Mancini were the young married couple, just out of college. Michael worked as an intern at Wilshire Memorial Hospital. Jane worked at a clothing store and hoped to one day make it as a big fashion designer. Michael's long hours at the hospital put a damper on their marriage. Sandy Harling was the young actress who rarely got any parts. She worked as a waitress at 'Shooters,' the fictional bar where the gang would usually hang out. Matt Fielding was the gay tenant at Melrose Place. He worked at a halfway house and often volunteered at a soup kitchen. Matt was usually discriminated for his homosexuality. Jake Hansen was a brooding lady's man who usually bounced from job to job and barely got by. Alison Parker had just come out of college and was working as a secretary at D&D Advertising. In the pilot, her roommate Natalie (who was not a main fixture of the show) left town unannounced and left Alison alone with the rent. Desperate for a roommate, Alison reluctantly allowed Billy Campbell, an aspiring writer to move in with her, but wanted their relationship to remain strictly platonic. Rhonda Blair was a roommate to Sandy. Rhonda worked as an aerobics instructor and was best friends with Matt. The show remained pretty basic throughout the first episodes and writers needed to spice it up. Sandy was written out of the show after just 13 episodes when she finally got her big break starring in a soap opera that that taped in New York. Sandy was replaced by bold photographer Jo Reynolds who moved to Los Angeles to get away from a messy divorce. As soon as she arrived, Jo began a relationship with Jake. Billy and Alison continually denied their attraction to one another and Alison began seeing a married man named Keith. Speaking of infidelity, Michael cheated on Jane with his co-worker Kimberly Shaw, who would later have a major part on the show. Jane became pregnant with a child, but sadly has a miscarriage. Rhonda worried about finding a roommate and supporting herself when Sandy left. Alison got promoted at D&D and Billy worked as a taxi driver and wrote amateur novels. The show continued to recieve low ratings as it went into 1993. Executive Producer Aaron Spelling brought in his 'lucky penny,' Heather Locklear. Locklear played Amanda Woodward, a co-worker of Alison who began a relationship with Billy. Alison moved to Seattle with Keith, but later moved back when she missed Billy. Billy moved in with Amanda for a short time but quickly moved out when he saw her true side. At the end of the first season, Billy and Alison finally admitted their love for each other. Amanda and Alison continually competed with each other wheter it be over Billy or D&D. Rhonda was written out of the show. In the season finale, Jane separated from Michael after finding out about Kimberly and Amanda bought the Melrose Place apartment complex.
