[edit] Rise to stardom
Thornton was born in Phoenix, Arizona to a Mexican mother and African American/Albanian father.[1] Her talent was first discovered at an elementary school talent show when she sang Mariah Carey's version of Harry Nillson's cover of Badfinger's "Without You".
She saw the Pussycat Dolls on MTV and heard they were auditioning for a new group member. Melody went to the audition and was recruited in December 2003. For her audition, Melody only sang and was still accepted into the group. As with the other Dolls, she is a salaried employee of Interscope Records. Her "doll name" is Baby Doll, because she is the youngest member of The Pussycat Dolls.
[edit] Solo career
Thornton started her solo career collaborating with rapper Jibbs in the song "Go Too Far" in his debut album Jibbs feat. Jibbs. Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Antin have confirmed that Thornton is working on her solo album entitled The Beginning with collaborations from Scherzinger and Pharrell. In late February, she stated to Blender Magazine, "I was going to have "True Love Lasts" as my first single but I decided to have the song "Melody" as my first single cos I want people to know who I am and that I'm not just a hot girl." She and Nicole have been writing songs for the Pussycat Dolls' new album. Melody's solo debut single "Melody" is set to be released in late August. Second single will likely be "Step It Up". Melody has stated on March, 25 that the album is back to its original title "Melodious" as the first single and her name as an artist is now just "Melody".[citation needed]
[edit] Vocal And Dancing Abilities
Thornton's toughest challenge being in the Pussycat Dolls is learning the dance routines as she has never had any dancing background. As for her vocals, she is known for her amazing melismas in the group, being the doll with the strongest vocals, and harmonising high, along with Nicole, for many of their songs and is the soprano and co-lead singer for the group. To date, Thornton's dancing skill have increased.
[edit] Personal
Thornton dated actor and former model Drew Fuller.[citation needed]
