Mellor, Lancashire

Mellor is a village situated in the Borough of Ribble Valley in Lancashire, England. It is reasonably large in size for a village as it has two churches, a school, a public house and a hotel, as well as a post office and and several shops. There is also an old quarry and the remains of an eel farm that was destroyed by fire in the 1990s.

Mellor Moor, overlooking the village, is the site of a Roman station.

Mellor also has a village hall, situated near the centre of the village. It hosts many activities, such as football, tennis, bowls and hockey. There other activities which take place in the hall like line-dancing, disco's, parties and exercise workouts. The hall is available to rent out, so you can hold you own parties or activities. The village hall is also the community centre for the village, where residents can go to dicuss on how to improve the village.

Close to the village hall is a playing field and a tennis court which proves very popular in the summer.

There is a myth from the early 1950's, that there is a Mellor Dwarf who roams the Moors. The myth is still believed today but older residents of the village, but most think of it as a joke.

In the centre there is an playground for young children and a public library and a doctors, which are both in the same building but are split into different sections. The library is popular with young children as it offers computers with access the internet and many interesting books.
