Melekeok

Melekeok is a town and one of Palau's sixteen states. It is located on the east coast of Palau's largest island, Babeldaob. Melekeok is 11 square miles in area and situated between Ngchesar to the south and Ngiwal to the north.
As of 7 October 2006, the city of Melekeok became the seat of Palau's government, replacing Koror as the nation's capital city.
According to the latest census 391 people presently reside in the State of Melekeok. They are distributed among seven villages, including Melekeok, the capital:
- Melekeok
- Ertong
- Ngeburch
- Ngeremecheluch
- Ngermelech
- Ngerubesang
- Ngeruling
Melekeok's Lake Ngardok is the largest natural body of fresh water in all of Micronesia (493 hectares); it has a small population of saltwater crocodiles Crocodylus porosus.
