[edit] History

Megacable has its origins in two small cable companies called VICASIN and VICASON serving a handful of cities in the states of Sinaloa and Sonora, around 1983. Soon after initiating operations, the companies were merged and began the process to acquire rights to operate other cable systems on the pacific coast. In 1996 the company relocated its headquarters to Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city, where Megacable then focused on technological improvements.

In 1997, Megacable become the first broadband internet operator in Latin America when it launched "MegaRed, Internet por Cable". Since then, the company has earned a reputation of being an industry leader, adopting new technologies in line with US cable operators including Comcast. For example, in 2003 the firm launched Megacable Digital, a cable service that offers up to 160 video and audio channels, an interactive guide and even TV-based Internet services, being only the second company world-wide to adopt such technology.

The company produces its own advertising and buys national TV and radio spots to promote itself. It is also famous for its advertising at national soccer games, which makes this cable company one of a kind in Mexico.

Since June 2006, Megacable started to offer the new Megafón telephone service, becoming an official "triple play" communications company.
