[edit] Story
The Red Alert Syndicate is a new group of Reploids, similar to the Repliforce, only consisting more of vigilantes. They claim to hunt Mavericks, like the Maverick Hunters, but apparently they do far more than that. One of their members, Axl, decides he's had enough of their "murdering" and so he tries to leave the group. Unfortunately, the group's leader, Red, doesn't take very kindly to this and goes on a mad tear to get Axl back.
When Axl finds his way to the Maverick Hunter base after stumbling across Zero, Red decides this means war and issues a challenge to the Hunters--he will release some Mavericks that Red Alert has in captivity, and whichever group can defeat the Mavericks first will win Axl.
[edit] Characters
[edit] New characters
- Axl-An ex-member of Red Alert who eventually joins X and Zero as a Maverick Hunter. He has the unique ability to replicate the appearance and attacks of enemies, although he states himself that he can only replicate one that are at his size. Axl is voiced by Lenne Hardt in English and by Minami Takayama in Japanese.
- Red - Red is the commander and founder of the Red Alert Syndicate, which sent mercenary troops on military operations to destroy Mavericks. Eventually, he becomes influenced by Sigma and begins commanding his troops to attack the Maverick Hunters instead after Axl's departure from the syndicate due to their violent means. In order to retrieve Axl, he initiated a war against the Hunters, challenging them to defeat his 8 generals. Red is voiced by Barry Gjerde in English and by Akio Otsuka in Japanese.
- Cedar - Cedar was a reploid who was often seen with a cigar-esque object inside his mouth (Edited out of the US version.) His illegal business was interrupted by Red Alert, but he managed to get away from them in the first place, having acquired the illegal virus program "Sigma-02." However, little did he subject that Red Alert let him get away the first time to see what he was going to do next. Hiding at Point RD-13-29, an area that was completely destroyed during Earth Crisis, but brought back on the road to recovery, Cedar found himself attacked by Red Alert once again. He was assassinated by Axl of Red Alert, who copied the DNA of Cedar's associate "Aluce." During this, Cedar couldn't help but mutter in disbelief at Axl's mysterious abilities. Cedar was presumably affiliated with Sigma as the success of Red Alert against Cedar attracted Sigma's attention toward the vigilante group and Axl's mysterious abilities.
- Aluce - The Reploid Aluce was an associate of Cedar's. Apparently being his bodyguard of sorts. When Red Alert attacked Point RD-13-29, Aluce was sent to investigate and fight off the intruders. Aluce met up with Red and Axl, and was retired by Axl through means of Copy Shot. Aluce's DNA was then used to trick Cedar.

- Boots - Gives X the Glide Dash, which allows him to glide slowly through the air.
- Helmet - Allows X to retrieve recovery items from further away.
- Armor - Enables the Giga Crash attack.
- X-Buster - Powers up X's charged shots and allows him to charge special weapons.
[edit] Trivia
- Mega Man X7 was also released for the PC in Asia. It suffers from numerous bugs, such as Zero's hair being "missing" during gameplay. It also requires a higher-end PC than Mega Man X8.
- There is an official update patch available for the Korean PC version of the game created. This patch, when successfully implemented, fixes several glitches, such as the Zero hair glitch. Links to download can be found on the Korean Mega Man X7 official site. Implementation of this patch is said to be difficult. There is also an unofficial English patch of the game found on popular Mega Man community forums. This patch is much easier to execute.
- The song of the opening movie is "Code Crush" performed by Rina Aiuchi and the ending theme is "Lazy Mind", performed by Shōtarō Morikubo, the voice actor for X in the Japanese games.
- The last Mega Man X in which the player can crouch, as well as in which Shōtarō Morikubo voices X.
- Only two of the eight bosses are fought in the traditional 2D form (Wind Crowrang and Soldier Stonekong). The only other 2D battles are the Giant Scorpion boss from the intro stage and the first Sigma form.
- This is the only mainstream X series game in which there isn't a special BGM that plays whenever you encounter one of Dr. Light's upgrade capsules. The stage's music continues to play during the capsule process.
- This is also the only X series game that doesn't feature a single Arthropod-themed Maverick as one of the 8 bosses.
- This is the first and only X series game where X's buster can be fired directionally (although in 2D form like Axl).
