I am a recently activated Wikipedian in Kogarah, Sydney - Male, 35, single no kids. I'm constructing some articles around Statelessness now, and will work towards Statelessness becoming a Wikipedia Good Article. Please advise me about your future meetings. Sydney Wikipedians met for the first time in a series of two meetings, which involved Wikimedia board member Angela. The attendees were Angela, Ianblair23, Ta bu shi da yu, Newhoggy, Andjam, Wm, Jasabella, M.e, CJLL Wright and Zigger.

Topics included the Sydney WikiProject and Sydney locations, a local chapter in Australia, user involvement and technical aspects of Wikipedia.

Sydney Wikipedians met again in February 2006. The attendees were Jasabella, Ianblair23, Newhoggy, Ta bu shi da yu, PeterJeremy, Andjam, Novacatz, Danny Yee, Enochlau and Nickj.

Topics that were discussed included the establishment of regular meetings, a response to the Wikimedia Australia proposal, the state of the Sydney WikiProject, different sources of information such as council newsletters and methods of evaluating the state of completion of Sydney-related articles.

[edit] Sydney Wikimania get-together?

Is anyone planning a local get-together to coincide with Wikimania[1]? It's on August 4-6, i.e. this coming weekend, starting Friday night.

It would be interesting to get together to talk about it; and also get involved in Wikimania online. (We can follow and get involved in Wikimania online on our own as well, but it will be more interesting with other actual humans to talk with and bounce ideas off).

One of my particular interests is this: There will be also sessions focused on non-Wikimedia projects, such as... related projects in the developing world.[2]

I'm in Homebush, Sydney, and am willing to travel within the wider Sydney region. I also posted a note on Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board.

Times: I believe Boston has daylight saving, making it 14 hours behind... so the 9a.m. opening of the conference, their time, is 11 pm Friday 4 August, for us. Of course discussions are likely to go on before during and after the conference. --Singkong2005 ^talk 11:38, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

My default option is to stay here, in Homebush, and spend a good part of the weekend following the conference online (with breaks for cooking or grabbing Sri Lankan take-away). I'm staying at a friend's place, who hopefully will have a wireless connection running by then, which would make it possible for someone with a laptop and wireless card to join in here, if they wished.
