Xyrael (talk • contribs) I've wanted to help out with mediation for some time now, but when I noticed that a backlog had developed, I decided to apply to join the committee in order to help clear this. I spend time fighting vandalism on enwiki-p, and although I do not have a huge amount of 'meaty' article edits, I feel that as a metapedianist I have worked positively for this community. I am almost always on the irc channels, where I try and help where I can. On the skills side, I am able to remain detached from situations so that I may keep a clear head, and am able to take into account the whole situation to see a route through and, more importantly, work out what people want and how they can solve the problem for themselves. I'd like to help the community in another way, and with mediation I can put some time and skills into something totally constructive and positive. I was recently involved in a policy conflict, which I cite here, here and here for a demonstration of my attitude should it be needed. Thanks for reading. Xyrael T 20:04, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Mediation committee:
- Neutral, leaning oppose at this time. Similarly to some of the questions I posed to the other candidates above, why do you feel that you have the community's trust? Do you feel that you have enough experience with Wikipedia policy? Do you have any examples of attempts at conflict resolution with regards to articles? Thanks! - Oppose. A mediator has to have the trust of the community. Given how new you are to Wikipedia (very few edits before April), I'm not sure that you have that trust. Please come back in a few months if you believe the community is behind you. Ral315 (talk) 04:48, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose You need more time to get experience on Wikipedia. I echo the sentiments of Ral315 above, come back in a few months when you will have much more knowledge of Wikipedia and its policies. --Wisden17 23:20, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

- In re: Flcelloguy: Thanks for your comment; I'm going to try and answer your questions as best as I can to see if I can convince you otherwise! --Xyrael T 16:04, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is a huge community, and from my point of view a user's userpage and their presence in projects and organisations is the main way of establishing a permenant profile, because with many edits a second the site is bustling and active. I feel that I am trusted because it is easy to trace back my actions and see what I have done in the past. My activity in Esperanza (mainly on the irc channel for this) has allowed me to build up a small group of people that I know, and although this by no means proves any form of wide trust, I think that it shows that I have the ability to gain this trust swiftly, and I have an extremely strong belief in the policy of assuming good faith, which helps me to keep a cool head. I would also like to highlight the fact that I am currently attempting to volunteer for an open task, and I would appreciate it if those about to comment here would consider my work there before supporting/objecting.
- I certainly do feel that I have enough experience with policy. I have knowledge of the most important ones and the underlying meaning of them all, and when I find myself in a situation where I don't know the policy I am able to look it up with speed. With talkpages and e-mail, this isn't a problem, and I have the skill to rapidly interpret new information and apply it to the situation. I must stress again however that I already know the core policies to a safe degree, and as such feel that I am able to mediate effectively as I will be able to give advice on policy and mesh this with other skills.
- Although I have been in a few accidents of reversion, I will not include them here unless asked because they never really became conflicts; my main case was very recently over an AfD. Unfortunately, I don't have knowledge that isn't already on Wikipedia (I learn a lot from it), and see myself as an administrator (in the sense of an organiser, not as one with technological powers) of other's information, solving problems and generally oiling the cogs. I identify with ^demon above in the way that writing new content isn't my aim and that I seek only to improve the presentation and organisation of what is already there. However, I think that the AfD shows some of my conflict resolution skills and I would nevertheless like to link it here: [[1]], [[2]] and [[3]]. I hope I've helped you with your opinion.
