[edit] Request Information
- Request made by: Greenman 21:34, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Where is the issue taking place?
- On the Herero and Namaqua Genocide and Lothar von Trotha pages.
- Who's involved?
- User:Ernham, and, sadly, myself
- What's going on?
- Ongoing edit war. Communication has broken down completely, and some new perspectives would be good. One perspective (to my mind, as one of the participants) seems to be a revisionist attempt to remove all traces of colonial wrongdoing. My edits don't reflect well on myself, as I for example agree that the article should be tagged POV (and said so in a Talk page), but have been worn down by what I see as insults and a lack of attempt to find a solution, so I've found a blanket revert easier when the added NPOV tag also includes some, to me, unsatisfactory edits. Feel free to reword if this comes across as biased in the framing of the problem, as it's not ideal me being a participant, but I would really like to see a resolution :)
- What would you like to change about that?
- A third (or more) voice would bring about a new perspective. I'd prefer to not be involved any longer, but would like the article to be well-looked after, and not left as a revisionist mess.
- Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
- No, it can all be done publicly on the talk page.
[edit] Mediator response
I note that the requester of this mediation has indicated an intention to discontinue his contributions to Wikipedia [1]. Greenman does not have email contact enabled so I have left a message on his talkpage asking him to reconsider. If no response is received, I will close this case. WjBscribe 18:05, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Case closed given one party is presently blocked. May have to resume if dispute continues once they return from their block. WjBscribe 17:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Compromise offers
This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.
[edit] Discussion
While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.
- Thank you for your offer. I was taking a Wikibreak after all the excitement, but I'm happy to try work on the articles again. I will check reasonably regularly. How would you like to proceed? Greenman 15:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- I note that the proposed other party in this mediation is presently blocked from editing until the end of this month. In light of this I see little use in any action at this stage. I suggest closing this case and that you continue to edit the article as you think best (and in keeping with Wikipedia policies). If in three weeks when the block expires, the problem continues, this case can be reopened or a new case started. WjBscribe 01:29, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I'll do that, thanks for the offer of help. I'm sure we'll be back :) Greenman 09:15, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
