[edit] Request Information

Request made by: King Bee 22:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
Aly & AJ
Who's involved?
Myself, User:Switchfo0t813, User:Acalamari, various others
What's going on?
There is a disagreement between Switchfo0t813 and the remainder of the community concerning what the genre classification for the Teen Pop band Aly & AJ should be. The community has come to a consensus that it should be "Teen Pop," while Switchfo0t813 continues to insist on adding "Christian pop." I cannot find any mention of the band being a Christian band (although the two members are Christian) on their official page or their myspace page. The one page that Switchfo0t813 thought to prove their Christian pop status is one that he works for (or purports to). However, a quick search on the site shows that even they don't agree with him.
What would you like to change about that?
I would like to strike "Christian Pop" from the genre classification altogether. If they don't identify as a Christian band, Wikipedia shouldn't say that they do.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
You can be as public as you like. =) You can reach me by leaving a message on my talk page, if you desire.

[edit] Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

King Bee, since you submitted this request for mediation has your position changed in anyway? Alan.ca 20:49, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Ok, now, does the genre "Inspirational Pop" seem fitting? Switchfo0t813 20:51, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
In response to Alan.ca: No, my position has not changed. --King Bee 22:29, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
  • user:Switchfo0t813, please define what you want and what policies or sources support your request. Alan.ca 23:15, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I believe that Christian should be part of the genre. Aly & AJ were nominated this past September for Contemporary Inspriational Artist of the Year, which was originally known as Christian Artist of the Year. They have been featured in more than 5 Christian music publications, including Contemporary Christian Music, Christian Music Today, Plugged In, Christian Music Planet, and several others. In many of these interviews, they express that they ARE Christians who make Christian music, but not only for the Christian audience. As they have said in a previous interview, they incorporate their faith into their lyrics, however they try not to "shove it down people's throats." I believe a reasonable conclusion should be to label them as Inspirational Pop artists. Switchfo0t813 00:02, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Organization of parties

To Switchfo0t813 and Acalamari, would it be fair to say that the two of you share the same view point, contrary to that of King Bee? Alan.ca 21:30, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

No, I believe both Christian pop AND Teen pop should be listed on the page to be unbiased, or perhaps just putting Inspirational pop, however Acalamari and King Bee disagree. Switchfo0t813 21:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
No, our views are different. I'll explain below. Acalamari 00:29, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

To King Bee and Acalamari, would it be fair to say that the two of you share the same view point, contrary to that of user:Switchfo0t813? Alan.ca 21:50, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I say yes; King Bee and I have the same view; and we have found no evidence that Aly & AJ are Christian Pop. I did support Switchfo0t813's idea before this mediation started, but I had to change my mind after doing some research. Acalamari 00:29, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I say yes, Acalamari and I share the same viewpoint. --King Bee 17:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
  • King Bee, do you agree that you and Switchfo0t813 share the same point of view in this debate? Alan.ca 06:17, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

No, our viewpoints are polar opposites. --King Bee 17:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Ok, in summary King Bee and Acalamari, share the same viewpoint, Christian should not be associated with the band. Switchfo0t813 is of the position that Christian should be associated in some way. All three parties please respond with a yes/no and signature. Alan.ca 22:50, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I believe Christian should be part of the genre in some way. Currently, I put Inspirational Pop as the genre...is that good? Switchfo0t813 00:09, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
No, I don't believe that Christian should be part of the band's genre. I am not opposed to Aly & AJ themselves being Christians; it's just there is no proof of them being a designated Christian Band. Acalamari 03:20, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
No, Christian should not be part of the band's genre. --King Bee 06:19, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Ok, then would King Bee and Acalamari please decide who will represent their side of this mediation. At once that has been decided, each of you state who has been chosen and sign your name below. Alan.ca 14:34, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
I will represent our side of the mediation. --King Bee 13:37, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree with this; King Bee may represent our side of the mediation. Acalamari 21:14, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Summary: Excellent, from this point forward the discussion will take place with King Bee and Switchfo0t813. Alan.ca 20:47, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Consent

I will participate. --King Bee 17:39, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Acalamari here. --Acalamari 17:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Do the two parties consent to proceed without user Switchfo0t813? Alan.ca 18:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Switchfo0t813 is still blocked, as far as I know. He hasn't had an opportunity to respond yet. --King Bee 18:28, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
No; we should wait. Switchfo0t813 was heavily involved in this discussion, and is on our "opposing" (can I say that?) side. He believes that Aly & AJ's genre is Christian Pop while we believe that they are Teen Pop. It is unfair (and very unwise) not to wait for him. How will he know what the result of the discussion is if he's not in the mediation? Acalamari 19:06, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

I am here. Switchfo0t813 20:01, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Good, can we proceed then? Acalamari 20:35, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I'll contrbute. -Rosepuff12 19:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
