What's going on?

...User:Royboycrashfan deleted this image without the customary 7-day warning, nor an explanation as to why the fair-use tag was invalid. This was a blindside, there was no warning whatsoever, and now the image is gone.

What would you like to change about that?

...Please tell me what I must do to a) get the image back, and b) tag it properly so it doesn't get deleted again like User:Royboycrashfan did. I hope the image can be retrieved.

Hi there, I am Cowman109^Talk from the Mediation Cabal. This isn't exactly a mediation case, though the best thing to do (which I see you've already done) is contact him and ask him first in a calm manner. Hm, the image does appear to have been under the criteria for speedy deletion I7 at Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion. This would mean that the standard wait time before deleting an image would not apply. However, I'm not sure if there is indeed any policy on undeleting the image temporarily so you can retrieve it. The history of the image's deletion log shouldn't disappear anywhere any time soon, so the best option is to have patience and wait for him to respond to your question, first. :) Cowman109^Talk 01:27, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Chris is absolutely right, the image should not have been deleted with notice and explanation. He should get the image back and be advised of a proper fair use tag. Rlevse 02:18, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

When images are deleted, there is no way to recover it. I have located the image on a mirror and reuploaded it. It can be deleted again if a proper procedure is followed. --Cat out 11:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

I think fair use is an inaproporate tag. Since image is from 1914 it should be in the public domain, nothing remotely as restrictive as fair use. --Cat out 11:47, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

We'll see where that goes then. I think the original issue was that the image was tagged as being a magazine cover or something of the sort, and as it is a postcard that would be improper tagging (and thus grounds for speedy deletion). I'm not an administrator so I don't have access to the exact contents and can only go by Roy's words, however.

I'm not aware of the proper tag for old postcards, however. Some research may be needed to be done on that. Perhaps a visit to the village pump with a question about this and redirecting them to this discussion may be good? Cowman109^Talk 15:08, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Cool Cat somehow resurrected the graphic for me, and tagged it well. I am most grateful, and consider this resolved, unless there is something else that needs done. I always prefer to do the right thing rather than the expedient thing on Wikipedia, when I know what the right thing is. Thank you for cluing me into the village pump. Chris 06:19, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
