The Mediation Cabal is a bunch of volunteers providing unofficial, informal mediation for disputes on Wikipedia. The Mediation Committee provides official mediation (per Wikipedia:Mediation), and the Arbitration Committee produces official resolutions and sanctions. We at MedCabal are not at all official and are just ordinary Wikipedians.

We do not impose sanctions or make judgments. We facilitate communication and help parties reach an agreement by their own efforts.

There are some situations we cannot help you with. Please read the following carefully.

  • You must already be having a discussion. We cannot start a discussion for you. If participants are edit-warring without discussion we cannot help you. Consider asking for page protection. Once you have a discussion going we can help.
  • Mediation is purely voluntary. All interested parties must be willing to accept mediation. If any interested party does not accept mediation, we cannot help.
  • We cannot judge who is right (unless there is a clear policy violation). If you need outside opinions, you can ask for a third opinion, or appeal to a broader community for input by asking at the Village pump, posting a Wikiquette alert (for behavioral issues), or filing a Request for Comment
  • Be familiar with Wikipedia policy. Be sure to read WP:NPOV, WP:RS, and WP:EL.
  • All parties must be willing to assume good faith.

If you have any questions you can post on our talk page, join us at the #wikipedia-medcab IRC channel on Freenode, or send us email.

If you wish your case to be handled discreetly or if you cannot edit Wikipedia, you can ask on IRC or send us email.

How to list a MedCab request

I. Put the MedCab request tag on talk page of the dispute.
  • Insert
{{subst:Medcab-request}}
at the top of the page.
  • Do not mark the edit as minor.
  • Save the page.
II. Create the article's case page.
  • The resulting box at the top of the article should contain a link to "Preloaded case page".
  • Click that link to open the article's case page. A preloaded form and some instructions will appear. Fill out the form. Please be concise.
  • Save the page.

It may take up to several weeks for a MedCab mediator to take on your case. Please be patient.

Cabalists

Cabalists magically rise to the call of mediation simply by having the case page on their watchlists. There are no official members. We are also happy to accept new mediators. If you want to help mediate, just pick a case from the list of new cases below. You can read some suggestions here. Don't be afraid to ask for help on the talk page.

Coordinators

The Mediation Cabal coordinators are:

If you have any concerns or otherwise need assistance from the coordinators, you can ask at the Coordination Desk.
