Talk:Medusa V

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As I guess most editors contributing to 40k articles are aware, Games Workshop are once again running a global 40k campaign this July and August, entitled The Fall of Medusa V. What is I think beyond doubt is that this is a major event in the 40k game and deserves mention on Wikipedia, but we don't yet have a strategy for how we're going to cover this.

My general view says that we should take a fairly "slow" view of this, and don't try to keep up with the actual goings-on of the campaign at all closely. We can obviously report on the prequel events (eg The Path to Medusa V and Dark Stars) once they've happened, as well as what we know from verifiable sources about what's going to happen in the Campaign (eg Medusa V will be hit by a warp storm, the races involved, why the races are there), but I think we should leave any actual battle reports or the like basically until after the Campaign has finished, and it's somewhat more obvious what was going on.

But, this is Wikipedia, so let's hear what other people think. Cheers --Pak21 11:45, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Article should have two main sections. One to deal with the background leading up to and fictional developments resulting from the campaign. The other to deal with the campaign as seen from the outside view, and should (to start with) only contain the most pertinent information, ie: dates of the campaign, information on the campaign codex and its contents, and the end result as reported by Games Workshop.
However, for background, I'd wait until the codex and campaign-time White Dwarves are released, as they will show how important the above information is to the plotline of the campaign. -- Saberwyn 12:16, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources

Nothing is published yet, but I've been talking to the dudes at my local GW, and have come to understand that the following are likely to be our sources for the campaign:

  • White Dwarf, starting next month's issue (Australian 317, don't know for others).
  • "Fall of Medusa V" campaign supplement, apparently will be free with next months White D.
    • Turns out its the back of WD317...
  • Codex:Cities of Death (Medusa V won't be getting its own codex like the previous worldwide campaigns.)

[edit] First Draft

I have the sacred text (White Dwarf). I'm going to draft up an article along the lines of Armageddon (Warhammer 40,000). It will be located on the mainpage attached to this discussion. -- Saberwyn 10:46, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

First draft is UP!! Comments? -- Saberwyn 13:31, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I tried to keep the fictional section past tense, as in three of our months, the planet will no longer exist. Is that appropriate? -- Saberwyn 13:31, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I've switched the tense to the present, and suggest that we change it later. Rumours state that the destruction of Medusa V will be spectacular, but that a segment may survive- somewhat like the Dark Angels have a bit of Caliban. The source for this is pure foaf, but would the survival of the Ecclesiarchy's prime cathedral mean that the planet isn't totally destroyed. I'm not insistent on the present tense. [edit] Later Split

If the Worldwide Campaign section grows to the size where it can justify a unique article, split it out to The Fall of Medusa V (which currently redirects here). Some of the redirects I have created are better suited to the campaign than the planet, so if this split is necessary, redirect those to the new article. -- Saberwyn 07:37, 10 May 2006 (UTC) The Planet may still exist but in what form is still to be determined, Deamon world, Necroyn feeding plane or other

With regards to the campaign, would anyone like to put up a list of the various planetside sectors and their real-life counterparts? 129.11.77.197 15:09, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Be bold! Cheers --Pak21 15:13, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Slogan

The campaign website is using "This year..." in its flash movie, so I've changed the slogan to that, with a note that it's tweaked for hemisphere-specific materials. Cheers --Pak21 08:41, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Sounds good. Thanks! -- saberwyn 23:11, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warzones

I have added information about the 9 warzones where all the action will take place, with references from White Dwarf and Warseer. Please edit if needed. Nic tan33 12:51, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Nice stuff. I've reformatted it into a table, but have otherwise left it alone. Cheers --Pak21 13:19, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

No problem, glad to help. Btw, does anyone mind if I add a section regarding the 9 factions involved in the Medusa V Campaign? Nic tan33 13:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Added the "Official Timetable" in all its glory. Anyho, does anyone have any specific information about the prequel events? Nic tan33 09:38, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

The "Dark Stars" report is up on the GW website. Someone could do a proper summary for the article, but a very brief synopsis is victories for the Orks, Eldar and Tau and defeat for the Tyranids (all vs the Imperium). Cheers --Pak21 11:08, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Great article guys!

Perhaps we could get some weekly updates in though?

Just a thought, great article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.142.209.236 (talk • contribs) .

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a news source. The trouble with adding "weekly reports" is going to be getting neutral, verifiable information. Cheers --Pak21 10:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, just put the final stats up after it's all over. --Streetsabre 00:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, the overall faction summaries are now up, have fun looking through them. --Nic tan33 11:43, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
