I have a question: what is the readability of Old High German to modern readers of Standard German, as compared with that of Old English to Modern English (virtually nil)?

Yup, about the same. Middle High German can be read by most Germans with a little adjustment, more or less, or at least the easiest texts can, but Old High German is not comprehensible without study. --Doric Loon 08:59, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
