Coordinates: 62°55′N 34°28′E Medvezhyegorsk (Russian: Медвежьегорск, Finnish: Karhumäki), also transliterated as Medvejegorsk and Medvezegorsk and formerly known as Medvezhyya Gora and Karhumäki is a town in the Republic of Karelia, Russia.

There was a village there since the 1600s, but it did not achieve the status of "town" until 1916, when it was known in Russian as Medvezhyya Gora (literally, Bear Mount). However, it changed to its current Russian name in 1938. The population grew from 15,800 in 1959 to 28,300 by 1996, but has been in decline since then, shrinking to 16,551 in 2005.

Medvezhyegorsk is on the Murmansk railway south of the White Sea, and at the north end of Lake Onega. The White Sea-Baltic Canal passes by it. Elevation: 262 ft. / 80 m.
