Medowie, New South Wales

Medowie /me.æɔ.i:/ is a rapidly growing town on Port Stephens in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia in Port Stephens Council. It is located approximately 2 hours drive north of Sydney, 20 kilometres north of Newcastle. It was a small rural town, until a property and commercial boom and now has a population of ~7,000. It has a major residential golf course. It is situated close to the RAAF Williamtown airbase, in which a large percentage of stationed men live in the town.

The rural town Medowie has two government primary schools; Medowie Public and Wirreanda Public. There is also a Christian school.

Medowie is home to a Rural Fire Station, formed in 1946. It provides an excellent coverage of the area, working mostly with volunteers to promote awareness of fire issues and to the put out fires themselves. The building itself has received a small plaque and is currently undergoing extensions.
