Avid is one of the biggest manufacturers of professional editing software in the world today. Their 'Media Composer' software has become an industry standard and is used for both online editing and offline editing.
The current professional standard version of Avid Media Composer is sold with the Avid Adrenaline DNA hardware. This hardware provides real-time video processing and a variety of video and audio inputs and outputs. The HD Expansion for the DNA hardware also provides High-Definition input and output capabilities.
In 2006, Avid announced the availability of Media Composer as a software-only option for the first time. This more affordable version is hardware-independent and runs on Mac and Windows computer systems.
