MedFriendly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MedFriendly is a leading provider of online medical information services to people from all different walks of life. The company was founded by a neuropsychologist, Dr. Dominic A. Carone of Syracuse, New York. MedFriendly reaches readers through its owned and operated website (http://www.medfriendly.com).
MedFriendly differentiated itself from other popular medical website by defining complicated terms used in medical definitions. This allowed readers to understand the definition of the original medical they were curious about without reading innumerable additional entries. It is this unique feature that makes MedFriendly notable. Additional support for its notability is that the website is used as a reference by the U.S. government's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention[1], is listed as a recommended website in an objective text [2], has over 14,000 links on Yahoo[3], and is referenced numerous times within Wikipedia itself[4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]
Unlike other popular medical websites that have hundreds of physicians and executives, all of the content of MedFriendly has been written by the website’s founder. This unique aspect of MedFriendly is also a weakness in that it does not permit the addition of extensive information on a daily basis.
In addition to defining medical terms in an easy to understand manner, MedFriendly also has a U.S. hospital index, physician directory, message board, blog, and measurements section. It also includes a fee for service option in which readers can submit medical information requests. Each year has seen continued growth of MedFriendly, but it is not yet traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
